Grants and Funding

The purpose of Aboriginal Relations' grants is to fund initiatives that improve the well-being of Aboriginal people in Alberta. Registered non-profit organizations, Metis Settlements, Friendship Centres and First Nations can apply.

Grant funding must support one or more of the following general objectives:
  • To promote economic, employment and educational opportunities in Aboriginal communities.
  • To assist communities and organizations in building capacities for self-reliance.
  • To assist in building relationships and partnerships between Aboriginal organizations/communities, industry and various levels of government (e.g., development and implementation of integrated processes and programs)
  • To develop and support consultative mechanisms.
  • To improve and develop government-to-government relations
  • To enhance Albertans' cultural awareness of Aboriginal communities and people.
  • To provide seed project funding and to further government originated initiatives.

International, Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Relations will not consider funding honourariums, give-aways, prize money and out-of-province expenditures.
